First Summary
Dorothy talked about the digital age in the ‘Share: Learn Create Share Pedagogy’ blog post. She talked about teachers having to shift their way of teaching and thinking in 2005 when the internet was becoming mainstream. I think thats when education and technology shifted. She used a metaphor to describe learning how to share your learning online to driving a vehicle. I really liked that, simply because its true.

Hi Dorothy,
First I want to say, I love your accent! It totally caught me off guard when I started watching the video attached to this blog post. I think it is very impressive that the children you are involved with have thousands of people following what they are learning. I loved how you had the comparison of learning technology is like learning to drive a car, simply because its true! Technology is something so easy, but also hard to learn. I'm glad that my EDM class brought me to this blog and I can't wait to see what you post next!

Second Summary
Dorothy talked about learning by creativity in the ‘Create: Learn Create Share Pedagogy’ blog post. I found this blog to be a lot more interesting. A way a child can learn is simply by creativity, either technological or simple, like dance, singing, etc. She used the example of the Beatles and how they only knew three chords and they learned all the rest after the creative process. Her school as started focusing on the cognitive engagement and I think this is something I will take on whenever I start teaching. It’s so cool to see what other teachers are doing, especially in England (where Dorothy is from) and see how things differ.

Dorothy,
I am learning more and more as I continue to read your blog. Creativity is one of my favorite things about children, because it varies from each person. I do believe we learn from our creativity. It gets us more involved and excited about learning. For instance, whenever I started making bracelets, I just braided the three strings together. After I realized how fun that was I started learning different ways I could add more strings and different designs. And it goes the same for sports as well. You learn what you are interested in. You made me really interested in Sir Ken, I am going to do some research on his teaching. Thanks again for posting awesome blogs!

  1. Hi Hannah, Thanks so much for taking the time to read and view my posts and for your thoughtful reflections here and in the comments you left. I truly appreciate them. You are very blessed to have a course like this where you are led to connect globally with other educators and gain an understanding of future focused learning. I am pleased to see you making the most of it.

As an aside, I am from New Zealand, not England - opposite ends of the earth :) However, like America, we are one of the colonies and so many of our place names come from England. Hence my suburb is called Point England. Look it up on Google Earth!
